China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, or Sinopec, released Wednesday in the Saudi capital of Riyadh three industry reports, shedding light on the future of China's petrochemical sector.

Fueled by strong demand from the industrial sector amid an economic recovery and industrial decarbonization, China's liquefied natural gas imports could hit a record in 2024, company executives and experts said.

The world's first fifth-generation 174,000-cubic-meter LNG vessel was named and delivered on Wednesday in Shanghai, facilitating China's transformation from an industrial follower into a leader in liquefied natural gas carrier sector, according to the Shanghai-based shipyard.

TotalEnergies, a French energy major, said it will further strengthen cooperation with China Petroleum and Chemical Corp (Sinopec), in the fields of oil, liquefied natural gas, oil product trading and engineering, as both China and France are actively seeking ways to enhance energy security amid green transition.

China Minmetals Corp's acquisition of a large-scale copper mine in Southern Africa's Botswana is expected to help meet enduring strong demand for the metal in China, said industry analysts.

Asia's first cylindrical floating production, storage and offloading(FPSO) facility, designed and built by China, finished hull construction on Thursday, a breakthrough in the nation's deepwater, ultra-large offshore oil and gas equipment development, said industry experts.
